Hi everyone,
It is finally the weekend yayyy! I hope you are all having a lovely day!
A new TV programme has started recently on ITV called White House Farm and it is based on true events. It is all about the Jeremy Bamber case. For one of my A Levels I did criminology and as part of my coursework I had to do some research on Jeremy Bamber so when the programme came out I was very intrigued. It is the case that became known as the 'White House Murders'.
The case is absolutely horrific and very harrowing and is about the murder of the whole of Bamber's family as they were all horrifically shot. This occurred in 1985 in the family's farmhouse home in Essex. The murder scene looked like a murder suicide as Bamber's adoptive sister Shelia Caffell suffered from some mental health and schizophrenia so Bamber used this to his advantage. Bamber brutally murdered his whole adoptive family before phoning the police to say that Shelia had gone mad with a gun before the phone cut off and he was unaware of the fate of his family and what had happened that night.
The programme depicts everything that happened so well and made it even more awful to watch knowing that this had really happened. As the police arrived they found the father Neville Bamber in the kitchen along with the mother June Bamber and daughter Shelia Caffell together in the upstairs bedroom. Shelia's two little twin boys Daniel and Nicholas were also found deceased tucked up in their beds.
One of the detectives that was called to deal with the case was DCI Thomas Jones who was known as "Taff". He firmly believed that it was a very straightforward case and that it was a murder suicide that had taken place however DS Stan Jones thought differently. We saw him in the programme go and look at all of the bodies and the murder scene and he really thought that there was more to it. He thought that more forensics and investigation should have taken place yet Taff was keen to get the case solved and thought that all of the evidence pointed towards a murder suicide.
Horrifically, Neville Bamber was found with eight gunshot wounds along with his wife who also had a gunshot wound between her eyes. The twin boys had been shot several times in the head and the gun was placed in the hands of Shelia Caffell to make it look like she had taken her own life afterwards.
It was thought that because the gun had a silencer attached to it, Shelia would not have been able to shoot herself as the shotgun would have been too long. It also seemed quite calculated that there was a silencer involved as nobody would have known what was going on meaning that the murderer would have had the freedom to do it without being found out or disturbed.
There is so much more to this case but for now I thought I would just talk about what happened in the first episode. It was brilliant and I really recommend a watch!
I will do another blog post soon about the second episode!
Thank you for reading everyone,
Niamh x
