Our fun Tuesday Seminars

niamhdouglas

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is having a lovely Friday and is really looking forward to the weekend!

Today I thought I would dedicate a blog post to our Tuesday Seminars and tell you a bit about what we get up to but more importantly, all the creative things we got up to last Tuesday!

Our seminars on a Tuesday are always a little bit different to any other day as we have a chance to step away from our briefs slightly whilst still working on our skills that will come in super handy for whatever brief we have that week. It is a chance to really get stuck in and get involved in lots of new things.

For the past few weeks we had been working with photoshop, creating mood boards and telling a story through photographs. Photoshop is something I am definitely not an expert with, I could barley even navigate my way through the software when I first started but it is great to get the opportunity to improve during these sessions.

However, last Tuesday was something very different but very exciting! We all turned up to our 9am lecture. Notebook out, pen in hand, ready to get started. Instead, we were told that what we actually would be doing is going out for a walk and taking a series of photographs. We had to pick three adjectives from our visual analysis piece and take pictures based on these. It was really fun just to spend time with my friend, walking around and enjoying the little things whilst doing this task. It was particularly fun walking around Tesco's seeing if there was anything we could photograph whilst listening to the music they had on offer that day.. I forgot how much of a tune 'I predict a riot is!'

Very soon 11.30 rolled around and it was time to get started with the seminar. We are in brand new groups now for our next task (I will do a blog post about this soon - keep your eyes peeled) so we worked together to create something visual based on our current brief. Our group has been looking at the Vogue photoshoot called 'The New Nomad' which contains very muted colours with some pops of more vibrant colours so it has a great contrast. The models are also usually in areas of nature so we really used this for our visual piece too. We began cutting out the photographs we had taken roughly with our hands and some others in my group made some neater, more precise cuts to some of the images. We used the window as our background and began putting things together to see what we could create. We really wanted to focus on nature based photographs, shapes and pops of colour against muted ones to follow the Vogue shoot that we had seen. Our lecturers gave us some great ideas on how we could place things creatively using the window so we could make sure that the outside light came shining through to make it look a little bit more interesting.

It was really fun to do something a little bit different. All of the members of my group were great, especially with placing the images to make it look really cool. I'll show you all the kind of thing that we produced to bring this blog post to a close.

Thank you so much everyone for reading my blog once again!

Lots of love,

Niamh x
