Hi everyone,
I hope you are all having a lovely Monday so far!!
Today I am bringing you my third instalment to my style diaries. So far I have taken a look at Alex Turner and Elvis. Today I am going to be having a look at the icon and amazing woman that Marilyn Monroe was. I find it so fun looking back at the different outfits people have worn and including my own comments on them (I seem to love all of the outfits with everyone I have done so far so we might see a common theme here :D)
I absolutely love this particular Marilyn Monroe quote so I had to include it! Life really is a beautiful thing and even through hard times, beautiful things can be found. Smiles are really contagious and I think they can bring so much light to peoples lives, they really are my favourite things!
Right, now enough of this.. lets get on to the outfits.
I thought that this particular outfit was extremely beautiful and looked great on Marilyn. This halter neck, polka dot dress looks so elegant yet playful. The dress hugs her body in all the right places and shows off her curves beautifully. The earrings are such a lovely touch. Pearls are timeless and tie the whole outfit together.
This photograph really reminds me of when Marilyn said that if you are not sure what to wear, put on some red lipstick. Red is such a striking colour and really highlights powerfulness and sexiness. The cut out detail adds to the outfit drawing attention to and elongating Marilyn's body. The simple black, strappy heeled sandal ties the outfit together and makes it look very classic. I also found out that it was a very popular look to wear red dresses with matching red lipstick in the 1950s and I feel like this look really suits Marilyn's gorgeous compexion.
This outfit, for me, is utterly stunning. A beautiful, strapless dress featuring a belt which cinches in the waist. Silk gloves and a fur shawl. Gloves like this were very popular in the 50s. They make a very sophisticated evening and party look. Marilyn wore this outfit to Walter Winchell's birthday party in 1953 in New York. Walter Winchell was a famous news commentator and American newspaper gossip columnist. I think that this is the perfect outfit to wear. It is simple in cut and colour but this is what makes it so special. It is not covered in sequins and feathers or anything too much. It is a simple, timeless style and the accesories make it all the more gorgeous and hollywood esc.
This outfit serves an elegant, 'off duty' look and you can still find these kind of pieces in shops today. This stone coloured all in one offers a summery look. The striped mule type sandals compliment the outfit and add a bit more to the plain outfit. Marilyn is blending in to the scenic background of this image and the colours she is wearing almost look quite nature based which adds a lovely touch. It is such a lovely, feminine look and it is the kind of outfit that I myself would love to wear.
The title of this look was 'relaxed separates' which Marilyn definitely knows how to carry off. A white shirt/blouse is a look that will never get old. It offers so many style points, it really is a classic piece for any wardrobe. Also, a camel coat compliments so many outfits and again showcases a very classic, beautiful look. Marilyn simply knew how to dress for any occasion!
This is one of the most well known images ever of Marilyn and I can definitely see why! The way this image has been captured, so off guard is truly stunning. Her dress blowing looks gorgeous and shows off the dress in the most beautiful way. This divine dress was worn by Monroe for her part in the film 'The Seven Year Itch' in 1955. The dress came about as a result of the costume designer William Travilla and it is so well known by so many people. It is known as 'an icon of film history'. I cannot express how much I love this look.
Right, where do I start with this outfit! Firstly this is one of my all time favourite photos of Marilyn. From her hair, to her makeup, to her outfit she looks breathtaking. The outfit hugs the body in all the right places and looks so seamless and effortless. An all around beautiful look.
This outfit features a shirt dress style in black paired with some white heels. Black has always been a very stylish colour whether it is a little black dress, a black skirt, black denim or anything like that. The colour black can make an outfit look very smart and sophisticated and I think that is exactly what it has done for Marilyn in this photograph. I love how she is blending in with the car in the background. Everything about this image is so cool if I do say so myself.
Last, but by no means least, we have this lovely simple but elegant outfit. A black turtle neck knit tucked in to some cream/white trousers. To me, the material of the trousers looks as if it is linen. I think that simple outfits like this can speak a thousand words and really make a stunning outfit. A dressed down look whilst still remaining very stylish.
So there we have it, my Marilyn Monroe style diaries are complete. I really hope you have enjoyed taking a look at some of her beautiful outfits with me. I hope you will all join me for my fourth edition to my style diaries soon.
Thank you everybody for reading,
